A two-day design-thinking and filmmaking workshop for newcomer youth in the City of Vancouver’s Youth Civics 101 Program, blending creativity with meaningful civic engagement.
Joined by illustrator Matt Hanns, the workshop guided youth through hands-on exercises and storytelling activities to uncover and celebrate their unique personal stories. Using a creative problem-solving approach, participants tackled key challenges facing immigrant youth, sparking innovative ideas and envisioning pathways for deeper civic involvement.
Through this workshop, youth gained valuable skills in creative inquiry, interviewing, journey-mapping, and storyboarding—tools to help them share their perspectives and devise ways to shape their communities.
